Mental Health Awareness:
Mental Health Awareness
We are fuelled up by all types of issues. Social inequality has raised all types of problems from
financial to interpersonal. The segment which is always less talked about is mental health. It is drastically ignored to the extent that seldom anyone seems to talk about it. Mental health is an alarming issue, It is like a time bomb that is going to explode if left untreated.
It is the responsibility of mental health professionals to arrange workshops relevant to different walks of life and fields. Organizations need to make plans for a general increase in mental health awareness.
The stereotypes related to some psychological health issues are so broad that people do not talk about them openly. The stigma can only be handled if we are more accepting and learned.
Common Stigmas
There are so many issues related to mental health.
- People do not accept they have an issue.
- They do not seem to seek help from the right professional.
- It is considered witchcraft. Top of it, even if someone goes to a psychiatrist or a psychologist, they ask for immediate relief from their symptoms.
- Mental health issues, OCD, Anxiety, Stress, and so on, carry a long-term pattern, you can not cure them overnight. Patience and persistence is the key to dealing with them. People lack the patience to complete the therapy, rather they look for short-term solutions. It leads them to take to faith healers and clergy.
Psycho-education
It raises a serious concern that psycho-education is a compulsory step for the common masses. Once they learn the true pattern of any disorder, like other diseases they will learn that, just like anyone’s physical symptoms and disease patterns, Psychological health issues are also diseases that can be dealt with, only proper guidance, treatment, and sustainable support.
- Mental health issues usually last long, nothing can cure your OCD within a few seconds, like a fever medicine or aspirin to relieve pain. It will need a focused approach by the patient, his attendants, and medical professional.
- Inconsistency in treatment will exacerbate the conditions of these diseases and disorders.
- If you sometimes take medicine and at other times drop it during a mental health issue, this inconsistency will be very debilitating.
- Learn more about the sign and symptoms of a disease. Take medicine as per prescription. Psychological help is necessary for any mental issue.
- If we see anyone, suffering from a psychological issue, we should not judge them, or why they’re so strange and awkward in behaviors. It is not their will to hallucinate, make delusions, have obsessional thoughts, worry about, feel low, or anything. It is the disease pattern that is making them feel that particular way. Once we know that, they are suffering some illness, we can understand that they do not make out their symptoms intentionally. It is all in their brains, maybe due to neurotransmitters, some brain injury, genetics, childhood trauma, or any other complications.
